Riky Official Pic

Riky’s introduction to the music industry began in a recording studio session with Bongani Fassie. It was by Bongani’s side that Riky was first inspired to make music of his own. He has since become a sought after music producer for artist ranging from MXO to L-Tido.

Fortunately music production is just one of the many tools in Riky’s skill set. He writes, composes, produces and creates soundscapes for his own brand of music, which includes his featuring as a lyricist and often singer. His mixtapes can be found on the internet downloaded by the thousands.

Riky’s Quest for knowledge in the entertainment industry also led him to AFDA where he studied film production. Since, he has helmed a number of music videos and documentary shorts for South African artists as well as shooting videos for himself in exotic locations like the canals of Amsterdam and South African mine dumps.

Yes, he’s also good infront of the camera, often sought after to appear in fashion shows ranging from clients like NIKE and Ben Sherman, Riky has a personality and sense of style that adds to any production. Recently he plays the role of a music producer on DSTV’s latest drama, ISIBAYA. Riky’s character, “Mandellic” is a favorite for viewers of MNETS most watched local drama.”

Young, gifted with rap. You’d be forgiven for thinking this is hip-hop artist Sizwe “Reason” Moeketsi’s moniker. Having broken into the music industry early, this young artist has a starpower and longevity that belies his age.

Born in Tembisa and raised in Katlehong, Reason came up as a battle rapper competing in numerous competitions, both official and on the street corner. It wasn’t long before Johannesburg began to take notice and he began making appearances on YFM delivering breakfast jingles for DJ Fresh on “The Unrestricted Breakfast Show” in 2005.

Reason has gone on to be named Hype Magazine’s King of the Bedroom and was named “Emcee of the Month” by Hip Hop’s first lady Lee Kasumba in March 2006 on YFM “Rap Activity”. This buzz propelled Reason to multiple shows across South Africa as well as a Scandinavian tour. Since then, Reason has gone to collaborate with some of South Africa’s most prolific rappers such as Proverb, Tumi, Zubz, ILL Skillz, HHP, Amu, and AKA.

Reason’s first studio release “The Reasoning”, boasting the production talents of Battlekat, Instro, Mizi, Rastic Ras and Ootz The Afronaut, garnered critical acclaim posting 4 stars in Hype Magazine, positioning it as one of South Africa’s highest rated albums in 2010. Reason then joined South Africa’s largest hip-hop brand Kool Out Entertainment as the featured Emcee and host for all Johannesburg events and has performed with international stars Ras Kass, Qwazzar (Typical Cats), K’Naan, and Masta Ace.

In 2011, this “Unsigned Hype” joined Motif Records, marking a new step in his career and will feature his first official label release in June 2012. Motif Records, a South African based independent music company, recording, developing and promoting cutting edge music through strategic music management. Motif was formed in the late 2000’s and have established one of the most sought after roster including one of Africa’s most popular hip-hop exports – Tumi (Tumi And The Volume), South African/Canadian singer/songwriter Zaki Ibrahim, the labels latest artist partnership include SA hip-hop artists Perfecto and Reason.

Motif see’s an opportunity to develop and nurture African and South African talent with the potential for longevity in today’s declining music business fixated with pop hit formulas.

Future Hip Hip producer and DJ. 22 year old Muzi hailing from Empangeni in South Africa has been making mutant trap, hyper bass and African soca for a hot minute now, dropping tunes that burst with energy and have great delivery. Debut EP ‘Bundu FX’ features four tunes that strut at high tempo, splicing the mind-bending wallop of dubstep, the flipped out swagger of trap, dancehall and riffs of glitch hop. This is a solid indicator of where the kids down south are taking things. These tracks are party music, big room and uncompromising yet full of rhythmic verve and booty bounce. Quality, highly recommended music!

A South African Emcee named Bongani Bonase well known as Rheebongs who was born in Thembisa Hospital in Johannesburg and lived in Thokoza then Alex for couple of years until the family decided to immigrate to Cape Town. Stayed in Green Point, Khayelitsha then moved to another township called Delft South in 1998 and it’s currently the same Township Rheebongs resides in.

Rheebongs fell in love with Hip Hop at an early age and began rapping and writing in 2003. After a decade in the music industry  Rheebongs has built a name amongst Hip Hop lovers around Western Cape especially Cape Town. In 2009 Rheebongs released his solo project titled Gevaarlik (Afrikaans for Dangerous which completely describes the type of lyricism he possesses) loaded with 17 joints, produced by some of Cape Town’s giants like Backyard Records Mashonisa (including himself). The album was to put the name out there as well as his stories to be heard because he had so much of his personal experiences to share. People loved it and appreciated the effort that had been put in scribbling the album. Rheebongs is part of an award winning crew by the name DSO (Delft South Origins) which was formed in 2003 and was later responsible for the birth of M4M Crew (DSO alongside Slaghuis King Of The Street Rap champ 2012- WP Region, Pincode and still undefeated battlecat, Vegita). Rhee (short for his name) created a huge buzz and a great following for himself in and around the Cape Town underground (including the Eastern Cape region at events like the Grahamstown National Arts Festival) over the past decade thanks to the efforts of the crew and his solo project. He is known by many and is making many appearances on major line-ups and interviews (on radio, TV shows like SABC 2’s youth show- Hectic Nine 9, Q.TV in Grahamstown, as well as Cape Town TV. Newspapers and magazines like Rolling Stone South Africa and Live Magazine SA). The emcee recently dropped an EP Titled Top-Notch (2013) and as expected the skill is off the hinges hence Rheebongs grows from every bar he scribbles. Rheebongs is still part of his crew DSO though, making moves in the game and going stronger than before.
